The Alexander Farm
With our partnership with Alexander Farm, we’re thrilled to introduce The Kids Food School, an enrichment program inspired by the preservation of Alexander Farm legacy.
Based on the belief passed down through generations, “As long as you have some seed and a bit of land, you can also have good food,” The Kids Food School embodies the spirit of self-sufficiency and community nourishment.
With Dr. Clarence Bunch at the Prairie View A&M University School of Agriculture and 40 Acres Project, we’re bringing this local enrichment program to life.
Designed for toddlers to elders, The Kids Food School offers a holistic approach to education, engaging preschoolers, college-age mentors, and Austin community elders alike. Through hands-on activities, workshops, and interactive sessions, participants will learn about sustainable agriculture, healthy eating habits, and the importance of preserving culinary heritage. Guided by experts, they’ll learn how to incorporate these farm-fresh ingredients into delicious and nutritious meals.
Black Seminoles
It’s crucial to share our narrative, and one method we employ is through food and our recipes. We’re committed to aid in gathering recipes and stories.
Starting this spring, we will be partnering with Casa de la Cultura Black Seminoles to, preserve their culinary traditions and heritage through collecting recipes and stories from their elders to share with their community and create a living cookbook.
In 2023, Adrian had the privilege of joining the Black Seminoles in Bracketville and Coahuila, Mexico, celebrating Dias de los Negros “Day of the Blacks” in El Nacimiento de los Negros “Births of the Blacks”. For over a century, Mascogos in El Nacimiento have observed this holiday, drawing Black Seminole descendants from across the nation to participate.
Black Orchard Farm
So excited to be working with and speaking about land access and orchards. As a chef we should know the work behind getting those varieties of apples to stone fruit to your restaurant.
Black Orchard is pioneering project aimed to address the under representation of Black and BIPOC individuals in the field of agriculture, particularly orchards. The focus will be on education, land access and community.
We are actively collecting data on a black-owned orchards and farms across the United States to understand the landscape and identify area for intervention and support.
If you are or know of a BIPOC orchard farmer please contact us
